Lost between Labor Day and October 7 a light blue, one man kayak, Old Town brand, with a black seat. Probably blown off the beach west of Sedge Point. If seen, please call Betsy Naumer 231/537-8211.
There
is currently proposed legislation being discussed in committee in
the Michigan State Senate. Please
access bills HB 4663 and HB 4664 at
www.legislature.mi.gov
These
bills have been passed by the House and have
been referred to the Senate Committee on Government Operations and
Reform. Here is information on the committee: GOVERNMENT
OPERATIONS & REFORM: Senators
Bishop (C), Patterson (VC), Cassis, Kuipers, Schauer (MVC), Clarke,
and Olshove Clerk: Michael
Healy,
S-106 Capitol Bldg. Phone: (517) 373-2417.
Bills
4663 and 4664 essentially require the DEQ to issue marina permits to
local units of government for docks at road ends provided the local
unit of government has adopted a specific ordinance. When the
bills were on the House floor, many other amendments pertaining to
the bills were also passed including one to limit the bill's scope
to lakes that are larger than 2,500 acres.
Douglas
Lake
is 3395 acres so if passed the bill would apply.
Tip
of the Mitt Watershed Council is concerned about the impacts the
enactment of these bills would have for the protection of our
natural resources. They are urging the Michigan Senate to
oppose the legislation if it comes before the Senate for a vote.
It
would be good if the Government Operations & Reform Committee
could be convinced not to take up the bills, which would prevent
them from being voted on by the entire Senate and essentially kill
the legislation. Getting numerous individuals to contact
committee members tends to be very effective in these situations.
Your voices have a much greater impact when legislators see
that you have taken the time to individually write, email, or call.
The DLIA along with the UMBS is participating in a study as to
the effect that Pike have on pan fish.
Your help would be greatly appreciated!
We need anyone and everyone that catches, keeps and cleans
Pike to save the insides of the fish.
Place these insides in a zip lock bag mark the bag with the
location where the fish was caught, the size of the fish and the
date. Place the bag in
the freezer and phone Paul Nows
537-4479. Paul
will pick up the bag and deliver it to the UMBS.
This project is in effect now and will continue through the
winter ice fishing season and well into next summer.
